Help! No Cover Art!
« on: July 21, 2006, 03:12:12 pm »

Hi All -

I just downloaded and installed MC. This is a clean install on a box, no existing repository, just setting up to rip all my CDs. I'm not getting any cover art for anything I'm ripping. When I rip, it looks like it goes out to search at the end of the disc, but any place I try to view the cover it's blank. I don't find any "jpg" files anywhere. The discs I'm ripping are fairly mainstream stuff, and I've verified on of them is present at "www.2thumbsupmall.com" (is that where all the images are coming from?) as suggested in another forum post...

I've gone to "Tools/Options/CD" and made sure "Get cover art from internet after ripping" is checked.

I've gone to "Tools/Options/File Locations" and setup my location rule to "Next to file (Folder.jpg)".

If I right click on a blank album cover, and go to "Images/Get From Internet..." I still don't get any results. I've tried both the "Replace if missing" and "Always download" options here.

Conversely, if I right click on a blank album cover, and go to "Images/Get From File..." and then select some junk image file, I do get an image showing up in MC and a "Folder.jpg" file shows up in the expected location.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

Jim

I've got the same problem.
MC won't get image files from the internet anymore !

I am a using MC for a couple of years now and (since implemented) I was always able to download the image files.
Since a couple of weeks it doesn't do it no more.
When I use the "get from internet option" MC takes it's time and I can see the "search slider" but no images will be downloaded.
It looks like MC is searching a "dead location"
Of course I know that it won't find all the images I am looking for, but I used to get a "hit quote" of about 50 to 60 %.

Any ideas what might be the reason ?
A settings issue or a version bug ?
I'm currently using MC 11.1.191 (but the phenomenon occurred aklready in the version I used before)
I store images in a central image folder as well as in the files, a setting I've always been using.
And similar to what Jim described, I can still store jpg-files manually in the cover art directory and they will be applied when using the "get from file" option.

Cheers

Same problem. I turned the feature off as there was no point in taking the time to search for it.

I think it is broke and will be fixed.  There is another thread floating around on this issue.

Anyone using IE 7 beta?  It has caused some connection problems.

No, I'm not using the IE 7 beta.

I was getting no hits when looking up the cover art at the end of a rip, so I turned the feature off awhile back.  Of course it could have just been a coincidence - e.g. the things I was ripping may not have had cover art in the database.

I'm not using IE either,
I'm using Firefox for about 2 years now and it has not caused a problem since.

Does the image retrieval function work fine for anybody else ?

I think the covers are pulled from amazon.com, right ?
Has anything changed on that site ?

This arises another question.
Would it generally be possible to change the location where MC looks for covers ?
I noticed that for a couple of albums (especially European ones) not represented on the US-site I was able to find cover artwork on the european Amazon sites (Germany or UK).
There are also a lot of files I buy from eMusic (great site !) which cannot be found on any Amazon-server, so it would be nice to specify this site as a cover source as well. It's a bit tedious to download them all manually.

But first of all I would be very grateful to any hint that will help to fix my general cover retrieval problem

Thanks

Yeah great,

I just installed 11.196 and it works again for me too.
Jim, maybe you should add this feature in the bug-fix history for .196,
even if nobody really knows why  ;)

Then again it would be nice to know, if the site which is searched for cover art can be chosen by the user.
And it would also be great, if I could make the option "Tolerance: Loose" the default option.

Thanks
