Lost all playlists during library switch and/or iPod synch
« on: October 31, 2006, 01:39:41 pm »

Using MC 11.1.201 on a single PC, local drive:

I switched libraries, synched with an iPod, when I got back to my main library, all my custom playlists had disappeared. There's nothing left but MC's built-in playlists. Lots of work -- gone!

I don't want to restore the full library backup because that will overwrite other recent database changes. I need to get just my playlists restored.

UPDATE: I copied playlistx.jmd from a backup and that seemed to restore the playlists. But then when I tried to edit the the formula of a restored smart playlist, MC crashed. When I restarted I could edit it OK.

More critical: What happened that caused all the playlists to be lost, and how can it be avoided?

Did switching between libraries destroy my playlists? That seems like a huge risk!

Or did synching the iPod from two libraries do something to the libraries -- I'd expect it to only do something to the iPod? Is there a synch setting that somehow causes iPod's playlist structure to be pushed onto MC, replacing the existing playlist structure? (Undesirable, but even if this happened, at least one playlist should have survived in MC, the playlist that was on the iPod, but it didn't.)

It's no fun experimenting to recreate this bad experience in hopes of identifying the cause, but since I found other posts of similar problems, I'm hoping there's a solution, or workaround, or at least an assurance that MC 12 is more robust.
