Somethings about V. 9
« on: September 07, 2002, 09:44:39 am »

Well, first at all, CONGRATULATIONS for the best Jukebox in the internet world!!!
At least, the covert art view!!!.
One question about this. Would it be possibly can choose too between see only one image for record or see one image for song in Playlists?
And if you are in Media Library and have the display set in one image for album, i'd like to do double click in the image and open it like a carpet and see all the songs to can choose wich ones i want to play, being able to play the whole album with right click funcionality.
But these are not the things i'm waiting for more intensity. There's other more important things. First i have to say that i think that v. 9 it's more developed in the visual aspect than in the managing music files, and i like MJ for the way i can manage my music files.
Somethings that i miss:
Smart Top Hits Lists: Possibility to create top hit lists for months(and/or weeks, days or year) and knowing (and seeing)how many times i've listened these songs in these time, and yet keep the historical data. You enclosed the Top Hits long time ago and haven't developed it any. It doesn't have many use after some time of use especially when have a lot of new stuff each month. If i've used Mj for a long time probably there's some songs with a lot of listens, but it's hard for a record with less than one month to appear in the top hits even it's the record that i'm listening more lately; so i think that Smart top hits would solve this. Are you planning it? Do you think will it be possible?
Random Playing of only one song for band/record: this is one of my dreams!!!. i'll try to explain with an example. If i want to listen one hour of random music of the last rock novelties. i write ~t=60 playlist=novelties 2002-08,novelties 2002-09 genre=rock. Right now if i do this will play probably about 4 or 5 bands with several songs by each, but i'd like to play only one song for band cause i've a lot of new stuff and i want to listen to the most of the bands. Are you planning it? Do you think will it be possible?
I sure will ask for more things but right now i consider these 2 the ones more importants for me.
I think that i've some bugs but i'll write them in the V9 preview post.
By the way, sorry if i haven't explain well some things, but i'm not english and i'm not totally good with english, although i do my best!!!

I'm glad you like it.  Your English is fine.  Not a problem.

Some of what you want may make it into version 9.  Too early to say which ones.

Not sure if you noticed the THIRD album view that is in the lasest build .. (Hit Ctrl-U twice) .. shows only ONE pic for each album instead of a pic for EVERY song ... might make you happy on at least ONE point :)

Yes i've noticed, but only works in Media Library. I'd like it in Playlists too!!!. Why? When i import music to MJ there's 2 basic things i fill in playlists, novelties for months, and Playlist Group for genres, that it's rather basic (Rock, Punk, Dance, Reggae, etc...). Basically, with this playlists filled i've rather control of what i've and how to listen it. Doin this basic genre i use the enclosed genre in the id tag like a subgenere. Why don't write the basic genre in the id tag?. 'Cause sometimes it's filled with some genre that it's not the basic one and i want to keep it. But with the view as is right now it's better to have the basic genres in the id tag, and make the subgenres in the playlist. When i say it's better, i want to say that if you want to choose music by genres it's better to begin choosing the more general genre and later go to the subgenres. Maybe a bit confusing? For me it's clear but i don't know if i can explain it better.
But, as i've said before, if i could choose what to do i'll prefer the other two things, Smart Top Hits Lists and Random Playing of only one song for band/record.
One thought made for someone not very smart about progamming and stuff (me):i think that the random playing of one song for band maybe it's hard to do, but the the smart top hits list musn't be so hard, am i correct?
AH! Thanxxx for the answers.
Jim H: I'm patient.

And one thing about Top Hits List: right now in v9 it doesn't have any sense, 'cause you can sort your music for number of plays and it would be the same.
By the way: I don't know if it's a bug or other thing but i've listened several songs 2 or 3 times (new library) and the Top Hit List only show songs listened 1 time.
