Track Name vs. Tag Name
« on: November 12, 2006, 11:32:08 pm »

Hi,

Does anyone know how to check is the file name is different from the track name stored in the file.  Meaning how can one find this?

[File name of track name] != [Tag name on track]

Thanks!!!

Depends why you're asking.

If you just want to make sure all your filenames are in sync with the file tags, just select all of your audio files and do a "rename files from properties" on them. Leave the directories field unticked, so that you're only working on file names, and MC will check all of the files using the template you provide, then may ask if you really want to make these changes, and you will say yes, and your filenames will be swiftly brought into line with their respective tags, meaning you don't need any long winded complicated stuff to get the job done.

If there's another reason you need this, say what it is, and also, let us know exactly what file name template you use for naming your audio files.

I Always Hated It When People Would Use Just The Song Name When Naming There File Names. I Found Most Of Them Did Not Really Care How There Library Looked Or The Tags That May Be In Them. Some Of The Programs Also Did Not Even Use ID3 Tags At The Time And There Was Basicly No Information About The Song.

This Was Back When People Used Early P2P Programs

I think At A Min The Artist Name And The Track Name Should Be Part of The File Name.

The reason why I ask is that I'm digitizing my classical collection.  I have been noticing some mistakes when I label the CDs my self.  THose mistakes are then used to name the files.  When I do discover the mistake, the tracks are already created.  So your suggestion with fix the track file name or the tag name.  I think the tag name is correct, not the file name.

You can use marco's suggestion for this (see the posting earlier in this thread).

You correct the track name in MC.  You then rename the file based on the tags.
