Ratings Between Multiple Computers
« on: February 28, 2007, 10:05:53 am »

Here's my situation:

I've got two notebooks - one for me, one for the wife, and a server.

The server has more than 60GB of music files on it mostly MP3 files.  We both access get our music when connected the network via a mapped network drive.

We never play music on the server - we only play it on the notebooks or on our own iPods we we only connect to our notebooks.

I would like to share/sync ratings between each of these locations so that when I change ratings for a song on my notebook it will be reflected on the server and then on my wifes notebook.

How can I do this efficiently?

One way is to sync the libraries on the two computers... This might not be very efficient if you want to be able to rate the files from both of the laptops, but here's my solution for syncing the libraries on multiple machines:  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=35978.0

However, if you ONLY care about being able to rate files from the laptops, and you have a copy of MC installed on the "server" box, you could also use the built-in MC Library Server.  I believe the library server allows Ratings (and only ratings) to be updated by the "remote" machines, but I could be wrong since I use my own solution...
