video codec to playback satellite captures??
« on: July 06, 2007, 09:42:23 am »

OK....so this has been the dealbreaker for me and MC all along the last few years.  The ONLY reason I still have 2-3 other video playback software solutions on my PC is this.....because for some reason, MC has never been able to properly playback the MPG files sourced from my satellite captures.  PowerDVD can, and so can Windows Media Player....but MC has always failed, even if I pick the renderers from those programs as the renderers in MC!

If someone could offer me a codec solution/setup that would make this work for me, I'd be eternally greatful (and could FINALLY rely on MC for pretty much everything!)

I've always found that if it plays in WMP, it will play in MC. Have you tried installing a codec pack like K-Lite?

No, but I'm willing to try anything.

Today I was further discouraged to find that it's actually not just the MPG's I capture from satellite, but rather pretty much ANY MPG files.  Strange because it plays DVD's perfectly....but from the options pages, it would appear that MC is not going to ever treat a DVD in the same way as an MPG.  To pain me even more, I got my second install of MC up today on the other PC, and although I never use that PC to play videos, I tried one out just to see, and sure enough it worked fine over there :(

Clearly this PC is able to play MPG's.....I currently use Cyberlink PowerDVD to play MPG's most of the time....and I always keep VLC installed on this box, since it's essentially a swiss army knife for video (it plays EVERYTHING).....but again, if I could just get MC to play my MPG's, I could get all my usual needs tended to from within one program.

So....guess it's time to find this K-Lite pack and cross my fingers.  I'll certainly be back to report my results....
