How to delete Replay Gain Settings?
« on: August 19, 2002, 07:36:07 pm »

How can I delete the replay gain info if I've analyzed some files by mistake?  Any help would be appreciated!

Um, guess we never thought of that.

Is it too much of a hassle to remove the tags and build them again with MJ's file properties system? (Remove Tags / add files again / "Update All Files" / Save)

Otherwise, deleting and re-importing may do the trick, depending on the format.

Let us know.

Actually, neither of those suggestions works. The files are MP3 files.  I tried deleting and then re-importing, but the files retained the RG values.  I also tried deleting the tags, but that didn't work and even tho MJ said it would be removed from the database the song(s) were still there with their tag info.  It looks like MJ didn't delete it after all.  One more thing...  if I change my mind about removing tags, I can't cancel out of the dialog where you choose what tags to remove.  The only way to get out of the dialogue is to close MJ, and if you do that MJ will crash every time.  But back to my original problem...  it would be helpfull if you could include a selection to remove the RG from one or more files, possibly in the RG dialogue. (A button for "Remove RG Analysis" perhaps?)  Just seems like it would be nice to have the ability to undo it.  Lemme know what you think!

I don't know how to delete the RG-Setting, but you can disable RG in the DSP. That should help, doesn't it?

I COULD do that, but then what if I'm using a playlist comprised of these songs with other songs that have been RG'd?  I'd have to sit here and wait till it got to those songs and then turn DSP off and then back on...  I just think it would be a better idea to have a RG removal function.

There are already wish list items that ask for better replay gain management including the ability to manipulate the values for individual tracks.  Hopefully with V9...

If you remove the tags, then remove the files from the database, then re-import and tag, you'll kill the info.  That's probably not so great though.

Otherwise, I'm not sure...

Well The Nice Side Effect Of My Top 40 Music Finder Program, It Will Remove All Of MJ's Extended Tags (They Are Not ID3v2 Tags).

PS: I Just Tested It, And Then Looked In The MP3 File And The Real Play Gain Settings Were Gone.

Here's an idea:

Change the Tools drop-down menu from "Analyze Replay Gain" to just "Replay Gain".  Then in the RG box add a button for "Remove", pertaining to the RG that's already been done.  If the file has not been RG'd, then it just skips it since it hasn't been analyzed.  Just my thoughts tho...

Replay will come to the front a little more in version 9, because a lot of people seem to like it.  We weren't sure with version 8...

Matt

I know they are in the ID3v2 Tag Area, But I Did Not See Real Play Gain At ID3.org On The Tag Sheet.

I thought This Was MJ Extended Tag Information

Matt Replay Gain is one of the great fonction of Media Jukebox.
Not only you have to put "the physical Replay Gain" more to the front,
but you have also to put it more to the front of the Media Jukebox presentation:
"Unlike normalize, with Replay Gain in Media Jukebox ,you keep the song in his original format................"
For me ,and many others, only this fonction is worth to send $25..
But where can you know there is such a fonction and how it works if you are looking at such a program?

Maybe you have to try to contact "Mp3 Buzz" at cnet
