Western Digital myBook's - Power Supply
« on: September 24, 2007, 02:09:51 am »

Hey Benn,
From what I recall you have tons of myBooks.
I bought one, and I have now lost the power supply for it and I cant find online ANYWHERE what Voltage and Amps it takes (into the device, not from the mains).
I need to know what output the transformer gives so that I can buy a replacement power supply for it so I can use it again and seeing as you have a ton I was hoping you could help out and check some of your power supplies and tell me the output from the transformer?

I tried calling Western Digital but they seemed totally clueless and didn't know :(

I can check when I get home.  Want me to send you one?  I have 8 unused right now.  They are the essential edition.

I Guess The Power Supplies For My Book, Depends On The Model, I Found This

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/accessories.asp?ProdID=175

On This Page

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=322&language=en

If you click on the power supply it sends you to a page for WD Passport™ USB Cable (white)

looks like there web site is screwed up

I left Them A Message To Fix There Website

But You Can Order it here On This Page

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/accessoryoverview.asp?language=en

Just don't click on the power supply link because it will take you to the wrong place. if you click on add to cart it will add the power supply to the cart.

Wow!  That looks like a good deal!  I was doing some research and it will cost around $15 to ship a 2 pound package to Australia, where he is located.  What do you think about this?  Maybe you'd be better off buying one new?  See if the price would be less.  I'm still more than willing to ship you one.

It's been aeons (well a year or two) since I've purchased a 'dedicated' power adapter.  I keep an eye on Radio Shack (and ebay) for their sales on anything from iGo.

http://www.igo.com/

Don't get spooked by their list prices.  RS tends to put stuff on sale 2-3 times a year for 'significantly' less than MSRP.

BTW, now that the 'big 5' cell phone makers have agreed to standardize on the newly-defined 'micro'-USB connector for sync and power on all new cell phones, I'm sure that you will see a glut of obsolete cable and adapters on the market in 6-9 months as the cell phone mfgrs roll over their new models.

Where'd you see that?  Just an observation?

Saw it in a couple of cell-phone/PDA specific places, maybe www.phonescoop.com or one of the PDA sites.

I'm sure that if you google for 'micro-usb' things will pop up.  The micro-usb connector was designed by a couple of cell phone companies in the USB Forum so once the mechanical and electrical spec was approved, it was only a matter of time b4 the phone companies got to gether to endorse it.

The iPhone has a relatively standard connector but only for Apple products--Yuck!  It would be nice if every device under the sun had that small USB connector which can still carry power in its small form factor.  One cable for everything.  Then, the charger is simply a wall to USB power adapter.  Then, with one adapter and one cable, you can charge your cell phone, MP3 player, portable speakers, and more.  Everything would use this.  So on vacation you'd only need one power and one cable.  It would be okay because you would just charge one device at a time.  It would save a lot of space.

So where's the incoming Firewire 2000+ to compete with USB 3.0?
