hi i use my laptop more then i use my server for listening and viewing my media, is there anyway too rate or use smartlists on my laptop and it would make the changes on the server?

So that when i connect to my server and listen to my smartlist 500 never played songs, if i find one i like i could give it a rating of 5 stars on laptop and then next time i connect to server that song that was in 100 never played songs wouldnt be there anymore and it would be in my 5 stars smartlist?

Thank You

A client cannot change the server database anyhow. Only the play count value is updated (by Library Server, which counts the served files).

If the server PC is on the same LAN segment (i.e. you are not accessing it through Internet) you may want to consider using the shared library feature instead of Library Server. Check these links out for more info:

Alternatively you could try to VNC or RDP to the server from the laptop.

ok so its the same as one of your posts... Well i ve read your posts and others on this. and also read glynors script(by the looks of it glynors script would do what im looking for  (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=35978.0) but i have no clue where to start, and am a bit scared to move all my files around and also do this mapping thing. so think i will just stick to the library server option, and keep writing down on a piece of paper my 5 stars, and searching for them on main server, and then playing them and rating them there...

Does look really cool though the way you guys have it setup, and i bet makes for a much cleaner easier way of sorting taggin.

thank you for your time :)

Similar problem:
I have a main server and a backup server (different location). Sometimes I'am listening from the backup server and sometimes on the main server. The drive letter and folders are exactly the same.

Solution:
Disable "Update for external changes".
So every time your library gets updated with new/lost files, you still keep the "old" tags in the library. Later, if you wish so you can run "Update tags (from library)"
