MP4s that "fail to import"
« on: January 04, 2008, 07:45:32 pm »

I'm using my iPod to show some TV shows to friends, and found that one particular episode of a show wouldn't import to MC12.  I tried many different ways to re-encode the AVI, but to no avail.  Everytime I ran the auto-import, or manually imported it, it would fail to import.

Then, I shortened the name from 65 characters (plus 3 character extension) to 34.  And it imported fine.

Is there a reason it does this with just MP4s?  The AVI with the same, very long name imported without incident.  I've got MP3s with longer names, and they've loaded alright.  Any information would be appreciated.

By default we use Quicktime engine to handle mp4 files. Quicktime has an restriction on how many characters are allowed in a filename.

You can try telling MC to handle mp4 files using DirectShow - but you must make sure you have necessary DirectShow filters installed on your computer. For details see this wiki article, and this.
