Request : Classified order album thumbnail for IMAGES
« on: December 30, 2007, 06:12:22 am »

Hello,

In most of cases, when you shoot an lot of pictures, you store them on you PC in a classified mode, to be able to retrieve them :

For example, you create under a /Pictures/ directory, a new directory with :

- either a thematic name (ex : Flowers, My Baby, My cat),
- or a chronologic name (ex : Christmas 2007)
- or, as often chosen in professional fashion & press world, a coded name "Year_Month_Keyword" which allows an easy chronologic order classification
ex:  "2007_04_Toronto" for all the pictures shot in Toronto in April 2007

All my 1To pictures are classified in the 3d mode

With J River MC, I have tried, without success, in normal view (and in some theatre view) to obtain what I want :

Thumbnail mode
+
One album for each shooting series (ex :Album  "2007_04_Toronto")
+
Each album gathers all the pictures which exist in the physical "2007_04_Toronto" directory
+
Chronologic inverse order (Newest Album in first)

And, by clicking on an Album thumbnail, (ex :Album  "2007_04_Toronto"), all the images of this specific album, appear, in Thumbnail mode

Note : In Professional Fashion and Press world, this is most of cases, the default view mode, on their MAC's ;-)

My Questions :

With the actual version of J River MC, can I obtain exactly this, in Normal and in Theatre view ?

=> Must I use the "ALBUM" concept ?

note : In Music, it's easy to classify by "Album" because, the "Album" name is in the MP3 Tag, but .. in Images , it's not !
So, for Images, must I choose another system than Album ?

=> Can the "FILMENAME" classification, be the solution ?

To try to have the Thumbnails classified as I would like, I have tried without success, many a many combinations, in Details mode :
Classify columns following "Filename", "Filename (name)", "Filename (Path)",

=> Can the "GROUP" classification, be the solution ?

Without success, I tried Group classification (Album, Album (By date) Year.. etc..) (I had some hope, there..)

Last : Here is the simulation of what I would want to have :

=>  Can-it be possible ??

Thanks for any Help !! :-)

Best regards,

Make an image view scheme.

Add "Album" as the only view scheme component.

In the view, switch from "Pane" to "Album".

Double-click any Album to see the files inside.

Is this what you're looking for?

No , I tried to understand and make what you tell me, but I cannot have the result I want :(

Note :It's so complex to choose, in Image setup,  the good associations of setups menu after menu, to obtain what I want ..

What I tried exactly after your reply
(And I write exactly how my setups are) :
(My remarks are in RED)

[Images] / Right Click / Add View scheme
In new Scheme window:
Step 1 "Create view Scheme"
Preset : <Custom> ( I let it as it is ?)
Album : "Album Jean-Max" (I write it)

Step 2
I uncheck (X)Autoname  -> ( ) ; I write "Album Jean-Max"

Step 3 Modify Properties
Image Image
Tree Position <Automatic>  (?)
I didn't modify anything:
(X) Populate tree
(X) Honor Parent scheme..
(X) Show in Theatre view
(X) Filter in both directions

Step 4
Pick file to show (Leave Blank : see all files) <Blank>
Media type :  ~Sort: [Album]-d, [date], [Name]  ?

In classical view, I had now on the left , my new scheme

An After ?

You tell : "In the view, switch from "Pane" to "Album".
Double-click any Album to see the files inside
."

Where is it ?

Is-it Here ? : In classical view, I found "Pane' in the upper zone of the window
if I click on the small vertical arrow after "Pane", there is not my new scheme "Album Jean-Max", only classical menu : in this menu, in "View layout", my new scheme is not.. :(

Note : Coming from the MediaPortal French Staff, I find the J River MC Images classification system Very Too complex
There are too many zones to setup and.. each setup can modify another etc..
Pane , Genre , Year, Rating, Default, Thumbnails, Album Thumbnails, Sort, Group, View Layout
and I don't talk about the secondary menu no easy to understand..

It is impossible to predicate the result after setups

So : I don't understand anything :(

Last :
To obtain What I want, can you do this :

You start open a empty database
You create 2 folders named "2007_04_Test1" and "2007_03_Test2"
You put in each directory some pictures

and NOW .. : You try to obtain exactly what I want in the right Zone of the classical Window : 2 Thumbnails classified in reverse date order, the first for "2007_04_Test1", the second for "2007_03_Test2"
And by clicking on one thumbnail, have in the same right zone, the picures in thumbnail mode classified in reverse date oder

If you succeed, ( Champain bottle opening !!) Can you :

- >Write here EXACTLY what you have done?
:(step by step) ,
with each choice in each primary, secondary menu etc..

It's so complex ! (and more, no French translation, so some terms are not understood at all..)

Thanks for your Patience :))
