Playing wma / DRM = Windows Media DRM Error
« on: June 17, 2008, 09:00:46 am »

Hi,
I've got problems playing drmed wma songs I've bought on www.fnac.com (french service). They play just fine in windows media player.
Every time I try to play one of theses songs, MC says "Waiting" then "Opening" and then popups a dialog box stating "Windows Media DRM Error - Unknow error (0xc00d2759)"

A quick google on the error code gives (from msdn.microsoft.com) :
NS_E_DRM_LICENSE_NOTACQUIRED    0xC00D2759   Unable to obtain license.

What can I do?

We only do silent license acquisition. (i.e. without a popup dialog)

For a service that only supports non-silent license acquisition, you will need to get the license externally with WMP, etc.

I am able to play the wma files in wmp right now, without any problem.

So I suppose the licence is already aquired ?
Is there something to do in order to "share" this licence with MC ?

Could you send a log (Help > Logging) to yaobing at jriver dot com?

It should certainly work if you already have a license.

Mail sent, thanks for listening!

Protected songs I bought from Itunes Music Store :
- plays fine in Itunes
- plays fine in MC

I just bought from another service provider (Virgin Mega - protected / wma) :
- Plays fine in wmp
- Plays fine in MC

So the problems I have in MC seems to occur only with music bought from Fnac Music.

Just to be more precise :

I bought the files yesterday and tryed to play them today. I tryed first in MC :
1- MC showed me a dialog asking for something. I did not pay attention and pressed OK...
2- It tryed to do something
3- tryed to Acquire the licence
4- tryed to open
5- Showed me the dialog with the Windows Media DRM Error

I then tryed to play my new music with wmp : worked perfectly.

Now each time I try with MC : 3, 4, 5 again and again...

I've contacted Fnac Music support to see they can help...

I have the same problems with DRM'ed files from my library's download site.
It is described here.
At the moment I have to strip the DRM to play them back in MC.

I've contacted Fnac Music support to see if they can help...

The support's answer :
Quote
"les lecteurs multimédia autres que Windows Media, ne sont pas compatibles avec le format WMA DRM dit sécurisé.
Veuillez télécharger la derniere version de wmp ... blablabla"

--> Right now media players other than wmp aren't compatible with wma protected format sayed protected. Download the latest wmp ....

I clearly stated that I was able to play music from virgin mega (which sold wma-drm) so they'll obvously won't help.

Is there something interesting in the log I sent to yaobing?

Is there something interesting in the log I sent to yaobing?

The log shows that MC went through license acquisition and a very generic failure code was returned. There are also a few lines of logging that are missing (maybe due to multiple threads fighting for the access of the log file).

Did you get a warning dialog box about needing to acquire license?

EDIT:

I see this in your previous post:
Quote
1- MC showed me a dialog asking for something. I did not pay attention and pressed OK...

Could this dialog be something like one of the following?

"The license acquisition URL in this file has been tampered with.
You are strongly advised not to navigate to this Web site.

Navigate to this Web site anyway?"

or

"A license is required to play the selected content
To obtain the license, you must visit the content provider's web page.
You might be required to register or pay a fee for the license -- it varies by provider.

A web page can contain elements that could be harmful to your computer.
It is important to be certain that the content is from a trustworthy source before continuing.

Are you sure you want to open the web page to obtain the license?"

or

"The license acquisition URL in this file is not signed and its validity cannot be guaranteed.

Get a license anyway?"

I'm sorry yaobing, none of these messages sounds familiar to me.

Are they the only messages that could have been presented to me, and is there something I can do in order to see it again?

I will try to install MC and play these wma files on another computer and will keep you informed in a few days.

These are the messages that we present to users when there is a license issue related to the license URL, i.e. Microsoft's Windows Media licensing code suspects something is wrong with the URL in the file.
