New computer. Restore Failed. Now what?
« on: January 25, 2008, 04:48:27 pm »

I just got a new computer, moving all my files over to it, and have installed the version of MC12 I was using.  When I tried to restore the license to the new machine, I was told that the license wasn't valid.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Rapid assistance would be particularly appreciated.

I tried the restore page.

I gave it my e-mail address, and it sent me a file which MC told me was invalid, and asked me if I'd like to upgrade.

Was it an MC12 license?

I've been steadily upgrading from Media Center 8 or 9.  But, checking the e-mail I received, the license it sent me was for MC9, MC10 and MC11.  I know, this morning, I had a copy of MC12 that was valid and in my name.

EDIT: I have a license file which I saved here that begins with the following: Media Center12-XXXXX.mjr.  So, yes.  I do.  But it's saying it's not valid.

Your MC 12 license is under a yahoo e-mail instead of a comcast e-mail.

The old license file doesn't work because it has expired. Each file is valid for 14 days. Remember to check the computer date before trying a new MC12 file if the Yahoo address works.

Everything's working now.  And it was remarkably easy to reconnect the library entries to the music's new locations.

Thanks for the assists.
