Maybe a Convert???
« on: August 08, 2002, 09:50:38 am »

My friend, the music nut, has been asking me about this MJ thing that I do all the time. Yesterday he was wondering if he could it on his computer. Yeah, I tell him. It sits there waiting for him to turn it on.

Then he gets cranky and says, 'Do you know how long it took for me to switch to cds?' ( Has a bunch of vinyl ). Yeah, so what's your point? Now you want me to switch to MP3s. Me? He's funny that way.

The writing is on the wall for this one. Sooner or later I'm gonna get this Neanderthal to wake up and see what digital music is all about. One of his gripes was that mp3s take out info. I let him listen to some, that he knows well, encoded at 320kbps. He was impressed. I also told him about ape. Even more impressed.

But the real hold off for him is the Internet. He isn't connected. Fred Flintstone is further along in the digital age then him. So without an Internet connection there was a hint at buying a jukebox from Best Buy..... WAIT!!! That means MM!!! Get connected I tell him. Even if it is only for a little while to get this.

I'm going to keep herding him in the right direction, but this would be so much easier if MJ was available the same as others. Sigh....

As far as the program? Yes. But I would rather have him get the Internet connection anyway. AMG would be of real interest to him. He has some obscure stuff and likes to know about similar artists.

Ever hear of these???

Herman Brood

Brecker Bothers

Nectar

Larry Raspberry And the Highsteppers

Stuff like this is 'normal' in his collection.

John,

Have done that myself, the Google thing. Amazing. Sometimes I think he rather enjoys being a stick in the mud!! At least he has seen (heard) the end result. He has some other friends that are into this kind of thing also. So, with a little luck and badgering, he will come around. I thought about bringing my machine over to his place so he could see how this all works first hand. Now if I only had a laptop....

Gatobrit,

I don't think that is an accurate discription for him. But close. It borders more on the 'stubborn as a mule' syndrome. Once he found out how cool cds were he jumped all over the format. Stand alone burner and all. Just wish he had thought about the computer he had first.

MachineHead - you're right. You're in need of a "killer app" to convince the guy to get into it. I guess an Internet connection is the way to go but AMG would seem like a good intro but you've done that.

Let me know what works though!
