MP3 files won't play
« on: May 23, 2008, 04:42:10 pm »

none of my mp3 files will play in any of the past three builds of MC 12.

I continually get an error  message which says the bit rate of the mp3 is 32 bit... that is not correct. the sample rate is 44.1K... and 2 ch stereo is selceted... regardless what bitdepth I select in the DSP studio... nothing works.... I'm using the ASIO driver as the output device... BUT no matter which I selcet as an OUTPUT device... no mp3 playback occurs... do I need to configure something elsewhere?  ...and not in Media Center 12?

please help.. thanks

Things to try....

Reboot

Uninstall, reboot, reinstall.

Uninstall, removing registry settings, reboot, reinstall.

Something may be wrong at the file system level.  Did you make any other changes before this began happening?

I've not uninstalled... just reinstalled the later versions...

Re Changes
None that I am aware of that could make this happen...

The only changes I made were, IMO superficial... skins... changes to the views settings in the colums area actually... and I did download and install a USB ASIO driver which MC12 does recognize as it is in the output devices section... using that ASIO driver as THE output device eliminates any playback of any files other than AAC or Apple lossless...

For other file types I have to go back into the OUTPUT DEVICE sec. and make a change to Direct sound or Sound wave...??  Then all will play but the  quality level goes way down.

I will do the ujninstall and reinstall this time, with what I think is the latest ver... but I've no idea what's going on... But some strange things have happended during these upgrades... as all file types did at one point play... and then only the non protected AAC files would play... and now they play fine, but the mp3 files won't...

I do prefer to use the ASIO   driver I bought as much as possible...

Lastly, Some non protected AAC files didn't play due to their being encoded at 48K too... or so says the MC 12 info window during numerous attempts

Thanks very much... hope this works.
