No MP3 Support
« on: May 02, 2003, 12:29:04 pm »

I have Media Jukebox 7.2. Windows recently decided to roll back the registry (after installing laplink.....) and I had to re-install. I now can't convert to and from MP3 and neither can I find any info. on how to sort MP3 out.... I won't buy a product again if I only get a very short "use" period from it!

You could have saved the plugin back before support for 7.2 was gone to a disk.

The earth does not stand still for one person.

You can always use the external plugin option and go to the lame.com web site and download the lame encoder or other mp3 plugin and use that.

I did save it and it won't recognise the plug in when I put it back. There are also no istructions on how to do this rather long winded procedure. Support should be available for as long as it's needed, and it's pretty rubbish that it isn't. kind of a moral betrayal of contract if not an actual one. Makes you feel like going off and file sharing (I'm aware that my details are encoded, but simply I don't want to do this anyway, that would make me in the wrong rather than media jukebox! Version 8 doesn't run on my old PC either. The solution? Well it's other software I'm afraid! Won't get fooled again! And you can put your software somewhere uncomfortable....

Go to Microsoft And Find Support For Dos 3.2

There Is A Limit To How Long Developers Should To Support A Program.

Yes But You Don't Have The Registry Keys I Am Gussing And That Was Included In The Zip File For The Plugin in The File "Registry.Reg"

the MJP file would have had somthing like this in it.

[Package]
Name=Windows Media Encoder
Action=UNZIPDIR
Version=2.0.34
URL=http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/mc_data/plugins/enc_wma.zip

[Action]
File1=*.*
File1Action1=COPY_PLUGINDIR
File2=enc_wma.dll
File2Action1=REGISTER

=====================================

Note The Plugin Is In A Zip File If You Do Not Have The  Zip File Then For That Plugin There May Be No Hope.

Pardon me for not being clairvoyant. That really is it then, can't waste any more time - I'm not a computer programer (and I don't want to be!) I'm a musician. It plainly does not do to buy most software, I'll manage with the three bits of freeware which do everything I need without the hassle, Winamp, CD Ex and Audigy. (my paid for editor is on the modern laptop). Gone.

Do you still have a file called MediaJukebox7.rrg? This is the license file and it will work on v8 (where ALL the plug-ins are still available via the 'net). If you still have it, DL latest v8, install it (copy the *.rrg file to a safe location and uninstall 7 if you haven't), copy the *.rrg file into the Media Jukebox directory then restore the license (MJ>Help>Restore License). Now re-import your media.

he is not having a problem with MediaJukebox7.rrg he may also have a MediaJukebox6.rrg license file, he never said.

he is having a problem with the encoder plugins.

the MJ7 encoder plugins are not compatable with the MJ8 ones if i remember correctly.

The point is to upgrade to v8 if he has the *.rrg file. Then his plug-in / encoder woes are history.

maybe, don't sound like he is willing to work thru the problem. he would rather tell someone where you can stick things.

True...very true

I saved the 7.2 plug ins for MP3 etc but it does not adjust the reqistry. The file itself is not the answer. (my registry changed when I changed hard drives etc.) I was unable to download the plugins to a folder because they automatically installed. The actual files won't help you either. Who knows how to download  pluggins to a file and install them from a file for version 8. Unless I can do that PLUS figure how to shut off the constant downloading of adds I am not going to upgrade to 8. Anybody got answers? I know others with the same issue.

I can agree with dropping 7.xx support yet still disagree with blocking self maintainence.
