Fixing Multiple Artist Compilations
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:50:25 pm »

I know before anyone flames me that it is here somewhere but as a bear of very little brain who has searched the forum I need someone to take me gently by the hand and help me fix this.

I stumbled across MC by accident - tried it and bought in an hour !

BUT

When i rip cds, and often it is obscure ones and they are compilations what I get is (variably) either an album shown as multi-artist with one picture in album view (which is what I want)

or 60 say individual tracks repeated all over the view (which is what I don't)

So to date I have stuck the artist in the title and renamed all the artists to Various (boring and painful).

I do not seem able to "rename" the album to (multiple artists) which gives me what I want.

So, deep breath ye MC Gurus and help a neophyte reach nirvana!

Welcome to the forums :)

Have a read of this old, but still very much applicable thread...

It contains the steps required to fix your problem, as well as understand why.
If you have any further questions, just ask them here and you'll get a reasonably prompt response.

Marko,

I found that reply but after three readings I am not any wiser. Can you just tell me when I have imported the album what I need to do?? Is it an overall thing?

Can I just fix the album?

For MC to automatically detect that an album is a (Multiple Artists) album, all the tracks need to be in the same folder, the album tags must be identical for all tracks and at least one artist must differ from the others.

Assuming you have not moved the artist into the title...

Select all files in the album.
In the action window (lower left of the application) choose "Tag"
Look for the Album Artist tag... if it is not there, then right click anywhere inside the tag window, locate 'Album Artist' in the list under "Also Show" and click on it.
Now enter (Multiple Artists) into the Album Artist field and press enter.

The steps above should be enough to bring all the tracks under a single thumbnail in your list. If you'd like to get them all filed away into a single folder, right click on the selected files and use the "Library tools > Rename, Move & Copy files" tool to do that.
