On my HTPC system I've have to add to the registry my EDID info for 1920x1080x24hz.  Once done it selectable as a resolution/refresh rate in my Intel graphics tray (or programatically) but it does not show up as an option in my MC "Change Display Settings".  Any tips on how to add it to this menu?

Display settings are enumerated from the system. We essentially only show you the settings that the system tells us exist. I do not know how to add extra settings.

You can do this with AMD GPU drivers quite easily, and the custom timings do show up to the system.  Perhaps it is time for one of these:

Be sure to also check out the Nvidia 9500GT, which does have good 24Hz performance.  However, it isn't a silent card like the Gigabyte I mentioned above (though still incredibly quiet).

Glynor, what does this mean exactly? My current display doesn't support 1080p @24Hz - only 1080i @25Hz (PAL). So does this mean that if I were to play a blue ray disk I would get a lot of judder and other undesireable visual artifacts? I wanna be able to play blue ray disks on my htpc but I'm not clear on this stuff and if refresh rates are going to make my life hell then I probably wont bother.

Thanks Glynor - I'll stick with the integrated GPU - it's all working well at 24 / 50 / 60 hz + 2.0/5.1 PCM & DTS / DD all over HDMI!  I found that even though the custom res does not show up in MC I can edit the "Playback Info" field value and the desired freq is selected just fine.  I'll check with the authors of the tool over at AVS why it is not showing up -- FYI http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=947830

Ralf - If you Display does not support 24hz then you are going to want to change frequency to 60hz to minimise judder when viewing Blu-ray material as the 3:2 pulldown causes much less noticable issues than trying to push 24 frames into 50.
