Possible bug, or intended?
« on: July 21, 2002, 10:49:52 am »

Has anyone else notice then when you right click on a playlist, or the entire Media Library, in my case, and try to send it to *a blank* playing now list shuffled, the first song in the playlist is not shuffled along with the rest?

In other words, I've got nothing in playing now, and I right-click Media Library and try to send it to Playing Now (Shuffle). The first song in my library is always played first. I can't see how this would be intended...

Can anyone back me up on this? Thanks,
Bob

When I do that, it goes in shuffled. Not necessarily the first song goes in first. Do you also have "shuffle" on in playback?

I do. Your answer surprises me, because I was pretty sure about this one. Just to make sure - if you right-click playing Now and clear it, then right-click Media Library and do Send-To->Playing Now->Add (Shuffle), the first song in your Media Library (alphanbetically) doesn't come up first? I've done it a few times and am sure that it happens for me.

That repeated (sorry :)), my shuffle button in the bottom left is ON.

Thanks again,
Bob

same as CVIII. Files are shuffled when PN opens, first file in the library segment actually wound up at bottom of PN.

I tried again as I had only done it before with a playlist. Used your procedure above as if it was instructions. Still the same result. There has got to be something that we have set differently but I can't imagine what.

How do you have "behavior" set up for?
I've got double-click to "replace playing now (single)" and
play button to "play playing now". It's a long shot but that's all I can think of that would affect playback.
How about under "tree and view settings"? How do you have sort set up?
Mine is merely "date (descending)".
I'm casting around in the dark, here.

Bob,
At least you're not completely alone in your problem. I found this in the "8.0.333" thread:

AlonsoN said on 07-20-2002 at 12:33:24 P.M.

Some problems, issues, etc:
(all with Shuffle OFF)
-When on a playlist and select Send To> PN> Add(Shuffle) then all tracks BELOW the first track are shuffled. The first track in the playlist is not shuffled and it should be.

Where that leaves us, I don't know.

Well shoot - thanks for all the effort CVIII - my behavior is almost the same as yours. I have the same double-click behavior, but I sort by name, artist, genre, in that order. Hmmmm... It is nice to know I'm not alone, as that excerpt is exactly what I get. It is also interesting that this does not occur if, for instance, I click Media Library and then the Play button (with shuffle on). In that instance *all* tracks, including the first, are shuffled.

Perhaps a small bug within shuffle somewhere....

Thanks again for your help,
Bob

As it happens, for any extra information to anybody, it appears that I see the same problem behavior with the first track when I right click Playing Now and try to reshuffle the list.

Bob,

--my behavior is almost the same as yours--

I wouldn't brag about that. Oh, we're still talking about MJ ... Never mind.
