AAC stream won't play
« on: February 14, 2009, 09:15:55 am »

I tried to set up MC to play an AAC stream from internet radio, but was unsucessful.

When I tried to follow Alex's instructions above I find that there is no AC3Filter to select, only AC3Parser Filter.
I installed QuickTime Alternative with no luck so I went ahead and installed QuickTime (as much as I detested having to do so) yet still no AC3Filter (even after a reboot).

Any clues?

AC3Filter is not part of CCCP, nor Quicktime, nor MC.

You have to download and install it.  Depending on the contents, you may also need DC-Bass filter linked by Alex above.

OK, thanks. I have installed the AC3Filter, and set the settings as described by Alex (and shown in the pictures) yet when I click on the AAC stream playlist in MC it simply freezes.
I know the stream is good as foobar will play it with no issues.

Can you provide a link to the stream?

Hm..., another one of this case.  m3u is a mp3 playlist, so MC treats it as mp3.

When I tried to follow Alex's instructions above I find that there is no AC3Filter to select...

This discussion was about local aac files, not online streams.

The DC-Bass Source filter has the splitter and the decoder components in the same filter. No additional filters are needed for playing local aac files. I don't know if DC-Bass Source can be used for decoding internet streams.

AC3Filter has nothing to do with for aac. I used AC3Filter only for postprocessing. It's main function is to decode Dolby Digital (AC3) and DTS audio, but it can be set to postprocess any decoded DirectShow audio. As I said, it's optional.

Radio Paradise provides several stream formats:

I'm now listening to the 192 kbps MP3 stream.

Listening to: 'Don't Ask Me Questions' from 'HTTP Stream' by 'Graham Parker' on Media Center 13

OK, well my fault.    :-[
I picked up the thread mid-stream on a search for how to play aac and failed to be thorough.

I can use the 192mp3 stream, but the 128aac seems to sound better and I believe it uses less bandwidth.
