MC 12 has worked well for me for the last year or so.  I've been giving a MC13 a test drive and found it to be very buggy and unstable.  The system where it is installed is basically a music server.  It is a 3.06Ghz P4 running XPSP3 with 1.5GB of memory and 1.5TB of storage.  I am running an ESI Juli@ card at 96K and an Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT.  It is not permanently connected to the internet (by design).  It did not want to coexist with MC12.  Uninstalling MC12 cut down on the frequency of the crashes.  However, what seems to cause it to crash most is if I pause playback for more than a minute or two, but that's not the only thing.  Sometimes it will just be playing back and just roll over and die.  I've been downloading and installing each new build but, if I it doesn't settle down, I'll just go back to MC12.

Will do.  I just downloaded and updated the drivers for my sound card as well as build 129.  I'll fire it up and see what happens.

MC13 is stable in almost all situations now.

What else is running? 

If you're using any third party plug-ins or visualizations, etc, uninstall them.

Interesting, but something is different.  MC13 and MC12 are both pretty mature.

It crashed while learning my remote this time (Sony RM-VL900).  I forgot to mention that is one of the situations where it always crashes.  When I click "done" it dies.  Here is a link to the http://www.dalarry.com/MC13/PreviousLog.pdf.

I looked at the Wiki and it points to the usual suspects.  Unfortunately, it doesn't mention anything that could possibly be a problem for me.  As I mentioned, I've disconnected that system from the internet and have been thinking about rebuilding it into a stripped down music server.  Maybe I'll run MSCONFIG and unload everything but MC13 and my sound card.

I've restarted it and am playing some of my favorite tunes.  I'm going to pause it while I get my Jim Lehrer/Newshour fix.  I'll restart it after and see what happens.  Usually when it crashes on restart I have to shut everything down and restart the system.

Could the RealTek software conflict with the ESI sound card?

Try switching playback between DirectSound and Wave Out.  Try disabling the 96K mode on the ESI.

I suppose it's possible but that begs the question; "Why now?"

I've always used ASIO.  I'll try these alternate formats and see what's happens.  I've set the sampling on the card to "Auto."

Done, but for whatever it's worth, since I installed 129 and the updated sound drivers, except for the learning remote crash, it's been running solidly.

I have had this occur as well, if I simply press Done and exit the window as opposed to the correct button to the right of the learning menu. Didn't think it was a biggie so haven't said anything but I can back him up on it.

Interesting.  "Done" seemed to be the "correct" button but I will check it again.  In any event, I think the problem was solved by updating the sound card drivers. I've been putting it through it's paces and no crashes.  I'm currently running the sound card at 192K with no more problems.
