I am ripping using dbpoweramp and ripping to WAV or AIFF.  All the tags work, no problem, and I can see the artwork in MC12 no problem.  The issue is all the albums are in the unassigned folder because the entire title, track etc is all in one column (artist) on MC12 and not in the individual artist, track etc locations.  Any thoughts how to fix this?  The track info is only in one field and MC12 needs it broken out, when I look at the file name it is identical to those ripped by MC12 (artist - track# - track name) it is just that the db files all pile into the artist location when loaded into MC12.  Help!

You are seeing the filenames, not file tags.

Like many other programs MC and MJ do not support WAV (or AIFF) tagging.

You should use a lossless format like APE or FLAC if you want to store metadata in the file tags.

However, you can use the Fill Properties From Filename tool for adding the info to the library ([Artist] - [track #] - [Name] string in the "Filename:" box would probably do what you want.)

I thought AIFF supports full tagging and that is why I used it....??  So I was told.?

AIFF tags are supported in iTunes. The format is developed by Apple and it is commonly used on Macs when an uncompressed format is needed for some reason.

A losslessly compressed format like APE or FLAC provides unaltered audio quality, supports tagging with wide variety of media programs, and uses less storage space.

Ok, thank you for the quick replies!  Do you know if JRiver will ever support AIFF?  I ask b.c I am one of those die-hards who insist uncompressed sounds better (I realize this is quite the debate and all empirical data says otherwise, but I am one of those brainwashed junkies.....as an aside I will try FLAC again to see what it sounds like in direct comparison to WAV or AIFF).  Thank you again!

There's an ongoing debate at www.hydrogenaudio.org about losslessly compressed vs. uncompressed formats. It is actually a thread about dubious claims that have been made on another audio forum. No one is claiming that the lossless encoding and decoding process itself would not produce unaltered results when files are converted from a format to another, but the claims are about the possible effect of the real-time decoding process during playback.

Most HA regulars know that such claims are nonsense, but since no one provided any hard evidence to support that knowledge I did two reproducible practical tests and released the results. The tests prove without doubt that the decompression process does not alter the outputted audio content. The next audio component after the player program receives bit-to-bit identical digital signal in both cases.

The rest of the thread may not be provide much useful information. IMO, it is mostly quite useless debating.

I forgot to answer this. Possibly it would not be very difficult for them because Apple seems to add standard ID3v2 tags to AIFF files (in a so called RIFF chunk), but there really has not been any public demand (before you). I don't think "AIFF tagging" is likely to end up on JRiver's to do list, but you'll never know. Maybe several others would like to have it and will convince the JRiver developers.

Thanks for the links, I will check them out!  As far as AIFF, to me this is a no-brainer......given that disc cost is so low right now, I have no need to use FLAC for space reasons, only compatability.  Since I use an iPOD for portable music, I can have my cake and eat it too.....I can use JRiver for my hi-end setup and then dump it all into iTunes without a single problem!  I can then convert to MP3 for iTunes as I dont care about the quality.......
