Feature Request: Smart upsampling of music files
« on: July 17, 2009, 08:55:10 am »

The Playback -> DSP & Output Format -> output format dialog box allows MC to upsample music files to 24 bit / 192K and other sampling rates.  This is a great feature when playing back using a sound card that supports these higher rates.

However, the current control is manual and set during playback only.  I would like the ability to add additional logic to these settings as follows:

1.  Add a control feature that allows you to simply upsample the music by a set factor.  For instance, MC could upsample at a double, triple, etc factor.  So that 44.1 music could be upsampled by a factor of 2x (88.2k) while 48k music would be upsampled to 96k.  These even multiple up sampled rates may reduce artificats from upsampling to non-even multiples of the base sampling rate.

2.  Add logic that allows the upsampling feature to be turned on or off by file type.  This is useful since you don't want to upsample encoded .dts or .ac3 files (you will corrupt the data stream and get noise output) but you may want to upsample .mp3 files.

Adding these control features would greatly improve the utility of the otherwise great MC DSP capabilities to make the settings "set and forget" for MC users.

thanks

just a slight ping, to see if anyone else would find this feature of interest.
