feature difference between v12/13/14 new user here?
« on: August 08, 2009, 12:22:19 pm »

For organizing my music I got to know about media jukebox v12 from a forum & I downloaded it , later I got to know that v13 & v 14 are also here. 12 being a free version .

So instead of 12 I installed latest 14.0.46 I imported my music collection into it edited the info added the cover art etc now I am trying to figure out which version carries what features & which version is good for my needs, I could not find a comparison chart on the web site or the forum.

If there is any chart can some one from you post the link here?

Few things I read here informed me that v13/v14 have 3d video wall & can catalog video too which I guess v12 does not. As of now I need to only organize my music collection so should I stick with installing v12,
if so will my media library created in v14 will remain intact?
what features will i miss from v14 in v12?

In v14 I see documents/images/video does that mean I can organize my pdf /word/excel documents along with images & video? if so hen i may not need it right now but will then continue with v14 & may later organize documents/images/video later.

i think you can actually manage all those file types in MC12.

there is  a list of changes made from mc 12 to mc13 on the mc13 board and i believe there is a list of changes on the mc14 board in a thread called what's new in mc 14.

Yes I saw that list that's how I know that the video/image/document import & 3d wall is not in 12.

Will I be able to use v14 library in v12 if I decide so?

The free version is Media Jukebox 12, aka MJ12. MJ can handle only audio. Its feature set is a subset of the features MC12 had.

MC has lots of additional features, fixes, and improvements that are useful with all media types, including audio. JRiver lists some reasons to upgrade from MJ to MC here: http://www.mediajukebox.com/upgrade.html

You can get some impression of the new features in MC13 and MC14 and J River's active development style by checking the complete change logs that I have maintained. The link is in my signature.

MC14 uses a newer, more advanced database format. It is incompatible with MJ12.

You can import an MJ12 library to MC14.

Currently MC does not read or interpret the file contents when document files are imported. It can only display the standard file type icon.

However, you can manually link cover art images to document files -  for example, add cover images to pdf books.

I attached a screenshot of an example view. In that view I can browse the file folders. The Image window shows a linked cover art picture. I created it by taking a screenshot of the first page of the pdf file.
