Theatre View + PowerDVD = Choppy Playback
« on: August 13, 2009, 02:21:59 am »

Hi there,

I've just downloaded the trial verson of MediaCenter14 and am trying to set it up for use on my HTPC.

So far everything looks great... except for one (major) thing...

In theater mode I've set up a menu item on the start page that will open PowerDVD9 so I can play back DVD and BluRay movies. It opens up just fine... but playback is very jerky and choppy. If I close theater view then the playback goes back to normal.

I've made sure the 'hide mediacenter' button is checked in the options when opening PowerDVD.

I've also checked to see that CPU and RAM useage isn't maxing out (not even close) with both programs open.

Any other ideas? I'd REALLY like this to work as it looks like it would be an ideal solution for me!

Thanks

Paul

After a bit more playing I think I've narrowed it down to the fact that the 'Hide MediaCenter while program is running' option doesn't work correctly.

If I open PowerDVD via MediaCenter then alt-tab back to MediaCenter it is still open full screen. If I press alt+space then 'n' to minimise MediaCenter then the choppy playback in PowerDVD goes away.

Is there anything that can be done about this?

Running Windows 7 RC1 here.

In MC Tools/Options/Theater View try setting the drawing quality down.  Also the frame rate.
