aspi32.sys
« on: July 10, 2002, 07:00:03 am »

I recently upgraded to MJ 8.30XX from version 7. Version 7 was working fine. Now, MJ won't use my GCE8160B CD-RW in digital mode ... only analog. I've checked various settings and it appears that the aspi layer is working right, but MJ report "aspi32.sys n/a" under system info.
What's the next step?

thx.

When you say, "won't use", can you be more specific?  Ripping?  Burning?

What version of MJ?

You didn't say which settings indicate that ASPI is working, but you do say that MJ finds one of the files n/a.

You could try installing the latest ASPI manager from Adaptec; that usually does the trick when having troubles with ripping. You can get the  ASPI installer here:

Thanks LC, for the suggestion. I d/l'ed 4.71 and installed it. Still no difference, still reports that aspi32.sys is n/a. I'm out of my depth with this stuff, so I'm not even sure that aspi32.sys being "n/a" is a problem, but it's the only thing I can see that looks out of place to me.

FWIW, I use an AOpen AK73 Pro(A) mobo that uses Via 4-1 drivers for the ATA100 HDD. Dunno if that's an issue, but it would also have been, with version 7.

The Adaptec ASPI distribution should have contained aspichk.exe.  Run it and see what it tells you.

You might also want to open the device manager and see if you can find the Aspi32 device and determine its status.  It will be under Non Plug and Play devices.  You may have to "show hidden devices" to get to it.

you need to run the install file inside the zip file.

I made that mistake like 4 months ago.
