When I convert my .ape files to mp3 into a different directory, library points to new files.
These files are temp for me to give away or take them with. When I delete those files,
entries from library are gone even though original files are still intact at original location.

MJ8 did not exhibit this behavior. Is there an option to override auto location update?

When you choose "convert format" and then click on the options button to enable the 'move to location' option, you must also deselect the "Update database" option to prevent the library from pointing to the new files.
