question about smartlist for duplicates
« on: January 03, 2010, 07:31:10 am »

I browsed thorugh several topics regarding duplicates but could not find an ansower yet. Maybe someone can help me - I am pretty sure there must be a solution for this...

I have several compilation albums which partly contain songs occurring also on other releases. I would like to create a smartlist / view scheme which allows to compare which songs of my compilation album are duplicates. The result list should contain the tracks of the compilation album plus the duplicate songs.

Would be great if someone is capable of solving this ?

No problem doing this, create yourself a smartlist and, in the wizard, add a modifier (the bottom section of the wizard) with the rule "Only duplicates of" and specify the fields to use to define dupes (usually Artist and Name)

that's too easy. I am aware of that modifiers for duplicates.

I give an example. I have a mix album called "best of prog rock Vol. 7". It contains 20 songs of which 5 are duplicates. I would like to create a smartlist containing the duplicate files of that album (5) plus the corresponding duplicates, let's say another 8 as 3 occur 3 times.

In total, the result should contain 13 files with 5 different songs.

Of course, I could do it manually for such an example. But, I have dozens of similar cases.
I assume a certain combination of smartlists could do the job but I have no idea how to solve this...

help on this appreciated :D
