Replay Gain work with DLNA?
« on: April 05, 2010, 02:33:33 am »

I just today purchased the update to MC15 and decided to play with DLNA.  Does Replay Gain work with DLNA?  I've got DLNA working over the network but it doesn't look like replay gain is working.

As far as I know, not all the tags are transferred using DLNA
But you can easily verify this.

-Access a song straight on the server
-Open the tag panel
-There should be a value in the Replay Gain tag

Do the same this time on the client using DLNA to access the same song
If the Replay Gain tag is empty, it is not transferred to the client

Unless I'm doing something wrong I guess the replay gain value isn't transferred.  Which kinda sucks.  I was pretty interested in using this feature but since I have a large amount of audio with widely varying levels it doesn't really work for me without it.

Any chance that you may be able to add the replay gain value?

Thanks

Be aware that (unless I'm mistaken - which is possible) replay gain wont work via DLNA unless the renderer is able to interpret and act upon RG info, and it is able receive the RG info from MC in a manner it is capable of interpreting.

ya I know that it would only work if the device supports replay gain to begin with.  I'm actually using MC on both ends.  Maybe Replay gain isn't part of the DLNA spec, I don't know,  but maybe there could be a check box to enable additional tag info to be sent if MC is used as the renderer.

Just wondering if a dev or admin knows if the DLNA feature might be expanded to pass replay gain when uded between two copies of MC?

It's on the (very long) list.

Thank you, I'm glad to hear that it will make it in at some point.  DLNA seems like it's a really good feature.  Will be worth the upgrade price I paid for MC15.
