Anyone else getting intermittent but persistant problems with display issues.  For example, the fancy new buttons sometime show up as the default/plain button look.  Happens in the properties screens a lot and on different buttons each time.  Plus, I was in the Plug-in Manager and it gave an application error a couple times.  The fault was created in GDI.EXE (related to display, I believe).  I am on 8.0.293 with Win98SE.

Thanks

Hi Jason,

We haven't heard many reports like that.  It may be worth upgrading your video driver.  Also, make sure no programs that leak GDI resources are running.

Otherwise, you can always disable MEGA-ME skinning in Settings -> Skin Manager...

Thanks Jason.

I have the same problem on Win98SE. Some buttons, checkboxes or lists are displayed without skin.

I've seen this as well.  On two different PCs.  Both run Win98SE and both have nVidia graphics cards (with recent drivers).

Try a search on google for nvidia and driver problems.  I saw some about two weeks ago and posted a link here.  A specific build of their driver was causing video freezing problems.  Could be other problems, as well.

Skinning will fall apart if the system runs out of GDI resources.  A reboot will help in those cases.

May account for some of what people have seen...

I have Sis530 graphics chip. The problem is probably not in driver, because I have no problem with other applications. I also tried to disable all hardware accelerations, but without any effect.
The system doesn't run out of GDI resources (75% are free).

If I switch tabs in options dialog then always the same controls are displayed without skin. If I minimize and restore window again the same controls show up as standard Windows controls. If I close and reopen the dialog then it happens on some other controls.
Maybe the bug is not in drawing, but in creating dialog windows.

That isn't necessarily true.

For example, MJ doesn't have the same problem on most machines.  Can we then assume it is your machine?  No.  It still could be MJ.

I believe the problem is in the driver.  My second guess is a problem with the OS.  We know the problem is real, but we can't reproduce it on any machine we have here (about 20).

Do you have another video card you can try (just to narrow the problem down)?

With skinning disabled, my main menu titles (File, Edit, etc.) are sometimes white, instead of gray. Running the mouse over them turns them gray (and they stay gray for that MJ session). It's been like this for all the versions of MJ 8 I've tried so far (I know I'm a few versions behind).

You can try updating, but I'm about 95% sure this is a video driver problem.

I know you don't believe this.  If anyone else is reading, do you see this problem?
