Library Server....PCM or compressed stream.

We set the transcoding options on the client, does this mean the stream is decompressed or converted at the server side, and PCM is streamed?

Could an option be to allow streaming FLAC to the client, and transcoding there? Lighten the bandwidth for high-res? this is an option for SlimDevices apparently.
