Native Sample Rate vs. Upsampling
« on: August 09, 2010, 03:36:04 pm »

I have a MC Library which is full of native 44100Hz files. When using the current version of MC How should i configure the sample rate options? Should i use 'No Resampling' in output format settings or would i benefit from upsampling? I always thought native sample rate was the way to go... not quite sure.

Since you're using high-end hardware, I would recommend outputting the native sample rate.

I think upsampling is most useful in cases where you're trying to avoid another bad resampler (Windows mixer, some audio cards, etc.) or if you want to be able to cross-fade (or do other mixing) of varied sample rate sources.

For normal playback on good hardware, I don't think there's anything to be gained by upsampling the signal you send your soundcard or DAC.
