I have 24.96 FLAC files my buddy made, and they are playable, but they won't allow cover art tagging.

Then I ran them in Flac Tester and they report:

FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_UNPARSEABLE_STREAM

I'm reading about others who have encountered this but can't even play the files, I can play these.

Any ideas?

From 2006 in the FLAC changelog:

Changed FLAC__StreamDecoderState: removed state FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_UNPARSEABLE_STREAM
Changed FLAC__StreamDecoderErrorStatus: new error code FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_ERROR_STATUS_UNPARSEABLE_STREAM
The above two changes mean that when the decoder encounters what it thinks are unparseable frames from a future decoder, instead of returning a fatal error with the FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_UNPARSEABLE_STREAM state, it just calls the error callback with FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_ERROR_STATUS_UNPARSEABLE_STREAM and leaves the behavior up to the application.

He says he has been using Foobar to tag his files, except for adding cover art.

When I decode the files, and re-encode, FLAC front end reports "type is set to 1, but file is 24 bits".

And, I get the same error:

[1/1]   C:\Users\kitchen\Documents\On The Corner... .flac...FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_UNPARSEABLE_STREAM
1 files, 1 errors [1

Is this normal? I'm using 1.21B (newest).

I get the same error on officially released HDTracks downloads? Is J. Coalson still part of this forum?

I'm curious how we are supposed to future-proof the integrity of our FLAC downloads if they all throw the same error? If the files are actually corrupt, is this the same error message; that would be quite problematic.

So are saying that the files play even though the checker says they're bad but they won't take cover art?
