Shuffling music among a number of ripped FLAC CDs
« on: October 02, 2010, 02:52:20 pm »

Hi everyone, I have ripped about 500 CDs to media center 15.  I would like to be able to group a number of them and call them "jazz" for example, and then have media center shuffle among them so that different songs from different albums are played from the "jazz" collection.  I believe this feature is available and I have tried to find it, but have not been successful.  Any ideas?

Many thanks, Jeff

Assuming you've tagged the genre field with "jazz"...
Right-click on Playlists in the tree.
Choose add smartlist.
Fill in a name like "jazz mix".
Add new rule.
Genre is jazz.
Add new modifier.
Choose shuffle from the drop-down list.
Save it.
Right-click on the new smartlist.
Choose play.

Hi, many thanks for your reply.  Let's say I have many CDs with the genre of "jazz" but I don't want all of them to be in the smartlist.  Could I define a custom tag, titled Jeff's special jazz, and then fill that in with "use this cd for jazz smart list" and then build the smartlist based on this custom tag?

Many thanks, Jeff

Yes you can add as many rules as you want.  Sky's the limit.
