Do you know what kind of video hardware you have?

We know this problem exists, but we can't duplicate it.

Hi Lionel,

I've never experienced this, but if it is really the splash screen that does it you could try disable it manually by setting this key in the registry to 0

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Music Exchange\1.0\Media Jukebox\Properties\ShowSplashScreen

Sorry, a bit of a novice...How do I modify the registry entries?

Could anybody who's experiencing this please do this (it would help us out so much)

1) Start Menu -> Run -> regedit.exe
2) Find and select: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Music Exchange\1.0\Media Jukebox
3) File Menu -> Export... to some file
4) Email that file to matt @ jriver  (no the spaces in the email address)

Thanks so much for your help.  Hopefully once we get a .reg file from someone, we'll get it fixed right away.

Ok, you should forget I mention it. I would not want you to mess up your registry

Thanks so much!

Unfortunately, it wasn't what I thought it was. (some weird 7.2 setting getting in the way of 8.0)

So, what happens if you rename your C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Data directory to "Data (old)" and try running MJ?

If that doesn't fix it, we'll figure something else out.

Thanks again for your help.

Do I rename the file I have, while MJ is still version 7, and then install 8?

It's a directory, not a file.  You can rename it after installing 8.0.  I think Matt's theory is that some data file is corrupt.

If MJ runs, you can start moving files from the renamed directory back to the new data directory, one by one, until it won't run again.  Then you will know which file is bad.

Before you do anything, please email me all of the .jmd files that were in the Data directory you renamed. ( matt @ jriver.com )

Thanks so much.

Just bumping this because it'd be really awesome to get those data files...

I have emailed the files.  Had to reinstall again because didn't disable the splash screen.  How do I import my previous library?  what is the file extension for libraries?  I made a backup of mine with MJ7 and now want to install my old one with all of the playlists

Lionel,

Thanks a million.

And I think the bug was in the MJ 7 -> MJ 8 database upgrade.  We'll try to fix it soon and have a new build of 8.0 available here on Interact.

I'll have more info tomorrow...

Thanks again.

Oh boy, that database you sent me doesn't work in MJ 7 or MJ 8. (opens with 6 files in MJ 7 and 600 in MJ 8... but there should be a few thousand)  I'm not sure what's up...

Do you have a different backup of your MJ 7 library you could send?

Thanks Lionel, and sorry for the hassles.

(p.s. Yahoo is bouncing back my emails saying you don't have an account -- do you have any other email address I can get a hold of you through?)
