Hello all,

I just updated to MC15 from v14 and I have the following issue with one album..
I have about 31 tracks from a radio station that I want to name as a single album with various artists. However for just one file the value Album artist (auto) just refuses to change to (Multiple Artists). For the rest of the files everything is fine.
However just for that track, the album artist auto field gets populated with the Artist field. If I try to erase the album artist (auto) field, the Artist tag is emptied as well!!

According to the wiki:
Quote
This is a built-in automatic field. It auto-completes as follows:

If something is manually typed in the Album Artist field, that content is included in the Album Artist (auto) field as well. check! field is empty
...
In order for (Multiple Artists) to appear automatically, the album must be in its own exclusive directory (i.e., if there are files from more than one album in a directory, the program will not label it as Multiple Artist). check! all in the same dir
Here is the logic. A track is a mix if all the files with the same [Album] value in the same directory: check! all files have the same album name tag
Have more than one [Artist] value among them check! multiple artists
Have no other [Album] values used by any other file in the same directory check! album tag same for all
Are Audio and have a non-empty [Album] value check!

So that file meets all the above criteria... just like the rest of the files in that folder.
Any ideas what I might be missing to make it change to (multiple artists) ?

PS: I dunno if it matters but the files have no track #

  • Your life is short. Give me your money.

Erase Album Artist (auto) for that track.  Then add the Artist field for that track.

You need to check the contents of the [Album Artist] field for that track. If there's something in there, it will be mirrored in the [album artist (auto)] field. If there's nothing in the [album artist] field, populate it with (Multiple Artists) and then your auto field should be all sorted.

Thanks marko that worked. Check out the screenshots below:

Before:

as I said before if I erase the album artist (auto) field, the artist is removed as well...

so as marko suggested: (after)

If someone can please explain to me why this is happening I would be very grateful as this is sooo annoying!!!!

it happens because that value was in the tags of the files. mc uses that info when it gets the files in.

What are u talking about?

There was no value there. The field was filled with the artist value.
I had to put (Multiple Artists) myself in that field as a last resort (check Markos' post above) to allow the track to be grouped with the rest of the songs.

one reason for instance could be a space in the artist album tag. emptying the album artist tag could help, and the [artist album] is an other tag then the [artist album (auto)].
an otherway to break it, but that is not the case in your screenshot, is having the multiple artist files together in the same folder with some other files from an other album.
