I have 2,000 albums in both wav and flac formats -that need to be compressesed to mp3.

Which format will covert to mp3 faster?

I should mention that the flac files contain embedded cover art.

wav would be faster - it doesn't need to be decoded prior to mp3 encoding

Buy more disks and keep the Flac I'm trying to do the opposite of you. Going from MP3 to Flac. Annoying to have media you know are faulty, even when you might have problem hearing the difference. Disks is so cheap today

I chose to convert from FLAC -- as that method seemed to automatically embed the album art in the resulting MP3 file ... while converting from WAV did not.

May be operator error on my part -- but I found that originally converting from WAV to FLAC presented the same problem -- and I needed to perform an 11-hour "Update Tag from Library" process in order to get my album art embedded into the FLAC files (2000 albums).

At any rate, having selected the FLAC to MP3 approach, which predictably requires uncompressing before recompressing to MP3 -- the process is screaming fast.
