Winoldap Error during Rip
« on: June 16, 2002, 09:12:40 am »

I get this error when I am ripping some CDs. The CD COPY Dialog Box stays frozen at Encoding (I am using MP3 vice MP3 VBR) for a track.  I have turned off the buffer and turned the speed down, but still get the error.  Love the product, hope you can help. Using Ver 8.0.293 and have WIN98 on DELL XPS T600r Tower (600MHz).

With a similar configuration (Dell P3-600, Win 98SE) and with the same encoding options set, I was also getting a winoldap error earlier today ripping from my main CD drive (a Samsung SC-140B). The system would crash and hang. I ran Dell system diagnostics on the drive and it checked out OK.

I also had been getting other kinds of errors during ripping (different CD's, different MP3 encoding options set) that would cause individual tracks to fail (one of the errors was something like "track has changed place"). There didn't seem to be much consistency to the errors, and since I don't do a lot of ripping, I didn't save the error data or investigate too much.

There was no problem with the one CD I ripped from my Plextor CD-RW.

Here's my current system info:

I am also occasionally getting that "Winoldap" error when ripping.  Not sure what is causing it, and haven't been able to detect any pattern to it.
While we're on the subject.  I am also getting a situation where when I insert audio CDs into one or both of my drives, nothing shows up in the main view (right window).  I have ran into this regularly.  If the CD(s) info has been gathered from CDDB, then the name of the CD shows up in the tree view, but nothing in the right window.  If the CD info has not been imported from CDDB, then the tree view just shows "Audio CD" and, again nothing shows up in the main view.  Right clicking and selecting "Update info from CDDB" does nothing.  Seems that once MJ goes into this mode, I have to completely reboot my system for it to operate correctly, but after a few CDs (6 ot so) it does it again.

Any ideas?

No ideas.  I think it must be a Windows error message.  Check Microsoft?

Can anyone verify that they only get the "winoldap" error when using the Lame mp3 encoder with "simultaneous rip/encode" enabled? Does the error go away when using any other encoder (ape, wma, uncompressed wave, etc.), or unchecking the simultaneous rip/encode option?
Also, everyone getting the error is running Win98?

Thanks,
John T.

JohnT,

I haven't done enough ripping to much help diagnose the problems, but I can tell you that I did get the Winoldap errors (and the other errors too) when simultaneous ripping and encoding was set. I haven't ripped to non-mp3 formats. If I get the time to fool around with it, I'll let you know more.

Thanks for responding JohnT.
I am running Win98 and ripping using Lame (mostly VBR) and simultaneous ripping and encoding.  I haven't tried any other formats or encoding options other than MP3 CBR and MP3 VBR.  The Winoldap error hasn't reared it's ugly head in a while.  If it shows up again. I'll try some different encoders and ripping options. and see if anything happens.

Again, Thanks,
Chico

I went to the microsoft site and searched for WINOLDAP errors and found this:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q266232

I installed the latest SPS and Media Jukebox is working well as long as I don't select "Grab Cover Art"
Hope this helps.

Well, speak of the devil...
I just had the Winoldap error again last night as I was converting a wave file to MP3 VBR High.  As soon as I clicked on the Start button in the convert window, it froze and the Winoldap error message appeared.  Strange thing is, none of the buttons on the convert window would work except the Help button (which really wasn't any help in this situation Next Page ).  I had to do the three finger escape.  After that, the converter worked fine.

This is going to be a fun one to track down.

Don't know how this thread got to the bottom of the list so fast...
Just wanted to move it up a bit.
