Library Server question - saving library locally
« on: December 03, 2010, 12:45:52 am »

If all paths to centrally stored media are the same on server and client, can we save a copy of the served library locally. If not, why not?

Yes,
I've been doing that for years.  I actually use a sync utility to constantly download the library files to my laptop.

Let me understand this... you use a third party sync utility, or one built into MC15? I've been restoring backed up libraries from my server, and then backing them up locally too. However, this deletes the thumbnail cache one has built up, and is a bit severe to do every other day on multiple PCs around the house.

I am using Syncback from 2Brightsparks to do the syncing.
I will have to check my settings.  I don't actually use the remote DB all that much now with the progression of Tremote.

Thanks for the response. I wish it were more obvious when one is using Tremote. It seems to me it's just a name for a process, but there's no feedback to say you're using Tremote. I'm a bit confused as to when I'm using it compared to say, DLNA between PCs running MC.
