mj8 won't install under win98 (ok under win2k) problem

I have mj7.2 on win98 - installer always crashs on installing.  When i install on a clean win2k machine(no mj7.2) it installs okay. Is the problem mj7.2 or win98 ?

It was a long time ago when I transferred to the V8 betas, but I seem to recall that it was recommended that MJ7 be uninstalled first.

Certainly, I used to have MJ7 on Win98SE and I now have MJ8 on Win98SE, so it can be done.  Actually it runs better on that machine than the WinME machines.

If you're uninstalling MJ7, you might as well do it properly.
After backing up your library, do the uninstall through control panel, delete the JRiver directories from C:\Program Files or wherever you put them, then clean the registry deleting the "JRiver" Keys in both places.

Both places =
HKey_Current_User/Software/JRiver
and
Hkey_Local_Machine/Software/JRiver

If after that MJ8 won't install then it will almost certainly be due to some wacked out obscure permutation of hardware/software/drivers that you have, perhaps without even knowing that you have it.

No problem with 8.0.293 on Win98. I would do as Callithumpian suggests and deep-six 7.2 and clear out the registry.

Just curious, does the installer crash with a garbled image at the top of it's initial display?  I have this problem in win98se.  I have to turn video driver hardware acceleration off completely and then it installs fine, albeit with slow video.  After the install I turn hardware acceleration back on.  Let me know if this helps.

By the way, my video driver is WHQL certified.
