I've been trying the Aeon visualisation from Soundspectrum, and it's awesome love it.
Unfortunately it's not supported by the portable installation however :-(

Any chance of any changes in this area?

I now run my MC from 2 x Toshiba 1TB USB 3.0 drives which are pretty awesome.  No more clunky power supply's so very portable and MC runs almost as fast as if it were running from an internal disk - (The USB 2.0 disks I found did slightly degrade performance).
