One MJ 289 installation story
« on: June 04, 2002, 09:12:16 am »

Hi All,

With excitement of a new toy I tried to install MJ 289
on a friends PC.  It's a 1GHz sytem with plenty of resources
and running Win98SE.

MJ kept crashing and did not install.  Later that day I quietly
attempted again.  It did install that time.

So happily I tried to demo it to him.  We played a few songs OK,
enjoyed the graphics, then tried a conversion wav to ape and back.
First problem here, that the converted file did not go to the designated
directory, but stayed were the original was.  Conversion was OK.

Trying to convert again, MJ started and kept crashing.
Did not crash the OS, but we gave up at that point.
The major diff between his ssystem and mine is
that he has a video capture card installed and the related drivers.

I suspect he will not buy MJ 8.

My story's a little different...

I downloaded MJ7.2 0n the 25th of last month and installed it fine on my win98 box. I then went hunting for the 'Plus' features and decided to try MJ8. I downloaded and installed that on the same day, again without any problems. That's about when I registered.

Since then, I've installed MJ8 on my Win2k box and ripped 260 CD's to ape format. That's 3,600 tracks / 75gigs of data. Mostly this was without a crash, other than for reasons which I understand and feel sure will be fixed.

Overall, I'm a very happy camper. But I do commiserate with anyone who's had a Bad Experience. I've had a few of those, myself. Trying MJ was, I think, one of my better decisions.

Durgame,
Did you install the FULL (9MB) version first?  We've had some problems when people installed the update only.

We've also had a couple of builds that weren't good.  8.0.289 on our downloads page is now pretty stable.  8.0.290 available only here fixed some stability problems on WinME.

JimH.

I used the complete version.
As an aside, I also installed it on his Sony laptop,
also Win98SE.  Did not get it to run even once.  Two totally
diff hardware sets.  One thing incommon Win98SE.
