How to use ALT Playback mode ?
« on: June 04, 2002, 07:13:10 am »

Hi Folks,

My usual playback mode is : "Crossfade aggressive 5.0 sec"
The other day I wanted to play an entire album ("Queen II") with "Standard Gapless"
mode because this album is basicaly gapless. So I decided to setup the [ALT] playback
mode in "Standard Gaplesss". (Options/Playback)

My understanding of this feature was that by pressing the [ALT] key while cliking on
album play it would start playing in gapless (alt) mode. Nope, it didn't and kept on using
the usual (crossfade) playback mode !
I tried to press Alt Gr, Ctrl|PLS|Alt, Shft|PLS|Alt everything while clicking on play,
I was not able to trigger the [ALT] playback mode.

Sorry for this silly question but I probably missed something as big as
a "nose on someone's face" ("Comme un nez au milieu de la figure" in french)
What am I doing wrong ? Or, is there an option to be set somewhere ?
Or, could it be a bug in 8.289 ?

I'm using MJ8.289 under Win XP/pro.

If someone could help,

thanks

Christian

Cmagic,

The way you are trying to use Play with the ALT key is what I pushed for and wanted too.  But, I think I was told it was too difficult or something to implement ALT-Play in MJ 8.0 (maybe 9.0).  Currently, ALT only works with Stop, Next & Prev (I think).  I guess it was too hard for MJ to remember how the Play button was pressed initially and know which playback mode you were using (Default or the ALT settings).

MJ checks the [ALT] state as you're stopping / seeking / switching tracks.  It doesn't remember anything.  Like Z said, maybe in a later version...

I see,

It means that if I want to change the playback mode from say "Crossfade"
when listening random stuff to "Std gapless" when listening a whole album,
I need to go to Options/Playback and change it manually each time !
If this is the case, the help file section documenting [Alt] playback should be changed
because it says exactly what I tried to do (pressing [ALT] key while clicking on play)

Anyway, thanks ZRocker,

we shall push that feature for MJ9.0.

cmagic,
Try a right click on the playback options button in the player window.  It's a little less stressful.

You're right going there through the player window saves two cliks.

Thanks Jim
