transfer from Windows Media Player to J. Rivers Media Player
« on: April 29, 2011, 04:44:25 pm »

I am in the process of ripping all my cd's (commerical and boots) to external hard drives in WAV format (external drives are so cheap now, why not?)

Anyway, I use Windows Media Player for ripping, and of course for maintaining the info on what's in my library.  If I switch to another medial player like J. Rivers, can I easily transfer the cd information stored in Windows Media Player to the new media player, or do I need to reeenter all the albun, song, artist, etc, info?

Obviously new at this, so I appreciate any advice.  Thanks.

Welcome to Interact.

Most files contain tags that describe the artist, album, etc.

This means if you install Media Center 16 and import the files, the metadata will come along.

Also, you might consider switching to Media Center for ripping.  WMP does not offer secure ripping, meaning it's not a great choice.

Thanks.  Once I've installed Meida Center 16, will it be difficult to figure out how to import the files on my external hard drive to it?

No as long as the drive is visible in "My Computer" MC will find it by just browsing to it in the import window.

They offer a 30 day trial you should just download it and tests things out. I am quite confident that once you
start using MC you will never use anything else.
