Taging MP3s!?
« on: June 03, 2002, 04:51:00 pm »

Please help:

1) If I edit some fields for an MP3 file how can I make sure that it will be written to it? vs having them in MJ dat base?
2) Is there a possibility that mp3 field changes were made ONLY to MJ data base and not file it self? If so how can I update all .mp3 files?
3) How can I make ALL my fields ID3v2 (vs ID3v1) and what tags are stored in it for sure?
4) And what data can be stored in ID3v2 (or can not be if list is shorter) i.e. where and how are 'lyrics' stored what are the possible scenarios for ID3v1 file, ID3v2 file...

Thank you all...

1) Settings -> Options -> under General -> Importing and Tagging.  Check the box which says "Update Tags when file info changes"
2) A) No, not if the above was checked when the chanegs were made and the files were not read only or in use.
  B) To update all files with the current data base info, select all files, right-click Properties, on the pull-down next to "Cancel" select "Change all Files", click "Save".
3)Do nothing additional to the above - as of recently MJ writes ID3v2 tags every time.
4) Right-click on any file and click Properties - the list of fields that you can edit represents the data that MJ will write into the (ID3v2) file tags.  V1 tags cannot store lyrics.

It may be considered heresy, but I still use a totally separate tag viewing utility (like TagViewer) to double-check my tag edits from time to time.  I hear King may know how to get your hands on one, as well.

I do all my taging in MJ now that it has improved over MJ6.

I do have the latest version of Dr. Tag that does support more id3v2 tags.
