BUG in 8.0 REALLY I SWEAR
« on: June 03, 2002, 03:11:52 pm »

I am posting this to report a bug only.  I do not want to be bashed, told to upgrade my OS, switch out my video card, etc.

I do not expect tips on how to fix.

I only want to report it so that it may be fixed in the future.

There is no virus on my system.

OK.  With that out of the way...

There is a bug in 8.0, and maybe previous versions, where if a file is showing in the player window and if it is not playing, (do not know about when it was playing - did not attempt) and you add an image to the MP3 file showing in the player window, you will get a message saying the file cannot be updated because it is open.  You click OK and it corrupts the file.  It turned an 8MB MP3 file into a 200K MP3 file which would not play or open.  I repeated the exercise 3 times to verify it was actually a bug.

I understand that you got a rough start with your other thread, but that was in part due to your tone. It's ok to report bugs in 8.0. I SWEAR! (even if I do not work for J River). I'm glad to see that you did not take it (too) personally and are still coming back to the forum. You'll see it's a nice comunity where to hang out.

On this subject This could be related to the original tagging of the file. The latest build 290 has some fixes for a crash caused by some incorrect tags written out by MusicMatch. Do you know what program encoded the file originally?

I was wondering why media jukebox should allow a bad tag written by MusicMatch (or written by any other program, for that matter) to cause it to crash or waste the MP3 file?  Especially if ID3V1 tag, why not just correct the badly written tag info?  Am I misssing something?

jhale,
Thanks for giving it a second chance.  Let's go slow and see where things lead.

I don't know about this problem.  Maybe tomorrow we can provide more info, but I would like to track down the video card conflict you found.  If you're game, let me know.  You can write at jimh @ jriver.com if you like.

MusicMatch Also Made Its Own Taging System That Was Not Compatable With ID3v1 Or Id3v2.

And No It Should Not Crash

The file was created using 8.0.289 of Media Jukebox.  I verified the problem on 3 different files created with Media Jukebox.
