Pictures, add to keywords
« on: June 04, 2011, 09:31:56 pm »

Can I add something to my pictures' keywords, automatically, without replacing the current ones? I don't want to click & pick, I wanna point to 3000 pics and say take this part of the filename (path) and add it to the keywords. I may have a brain freeze but I don't see it.

Morning Daydream,

Automatically, no. confishy created "AutoTagger" that might be able to automate this for you. I'm not sure as I've not used it before.

Recent changes to the way list type fields are handled makes this a little more cumbersome as it would appear that inline expression support is no longer available for list type fields.

The quickest manual way to achieve this that I can see is:

  • Locate (or create) an unused, string type, standard field. (I used [Genre] in my tests)
  • Select the 3000 files, then, in the tag window, click to edit your standard field. Enter =[keywords];part of filename (path) and press enter to save.
  • With the 3000 files still selected, use the "Move/Copy Fields" tool to either move or copy the contents of that standard field to [keywords] and the job is then done.

Thanks Marko! Very good idea, I'll put it to heavy use.
