WinXP Pro & MJ File Associations
« on: May 24, 2002, 11:08:58 am »

Hi

I cannot tell if this is an MJ problem or and XP problem. I suspect the latter, but here goes anyhow.

When dbl click on an OGG or an MP3 for the last couple of builds, this will start MJ, but not play until you dble click the file again. i.e. you can dbl click to play in explorer as long as MJ is open.

I checked the file associations and these show "Opens with mjextman" (not Mediajukebox which is a separate program)
In the advanced window, actions are Open and Play (as I would expect)

I have not adjusted any of the settings (for fear of really screwing things up).

Anyone able to shed light on the problem?

Ilmar

Don't know, sorry.  Try a right click on the file(s) and then play with MJ.

Yes, that always works.

Maybe XP has run its course and neeeds a clean install. It has been on my system for 6 months - this is good. All other versions of Windows only lasted 3 months!

Thanks

I too noticed the "mjextman" thing, (although I do not have the same problem). I was wondering if you could explain what exactly this "mjextman" is?  -I have noticed that I can also select it from the "OpenWith" menu.

Thanks,
p.

Hi Ilmar,
since a few MJB builds as you said above, I also have your same problem in XP Pro even if did a clean XP installation after have formatted my HD; I never noticed this issue in previous MJB builds.
I didn't give it a big importance just because is a minor issue, though it is again present.
Ah yesterday, when JimH at last cleared to reset our 6 restores with the final relase, I uninstalled & after reboot I reinstalled MJ fixing some bigger issues that I reported here in forum a few times without a reply, but not this particular prob.
Uninstall MJ before is unluckly a need to fix the other bigger issues.

Ilmar,

I don't know what this is due to, but I can't reproduce it.

On my system everything works like ot should do --> double-clicking any
music file causes MJ to open and start playing the file

Beh, I must admit that now also this issue is fixed for me too, but remember that only a few days ago it was present exactly as described by Ilmar. So I suppose that uninstall, boot & reinstall MJB could have made the miracle...
