Custom Database fields in MC16.176 disappearing
« on: September 26, 2011, 08:08:55 am »

Hi, I have added ~6 custome database fields to MC16 to help organise my video Media Type better.  This was working well previously and the field values were all being written into the sidecar files. Just tonight I had to reboot my server and all of a sudden all of my custom field definitions are gone ?.  It seems like the fields have reset back to the defaults.

Has anyone else come across this issue are have any suggestions on how to fix it?

What OS are you using? Is it possible that Windows File Protection (WFP) is preventing your changes to system files (Media Center) from sticking? So when you rebooted it set everything back to default.

What about User Account Control (UAC) settings?

I have a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium x64.  I have all of the windows updates installed up to current.
I have read the WFP article but still not sure how to turn it off for selected files or folders.  Also, which UAC settings would be relevent to this problem?

You can restore a library backup (Media Center makes them automatically) if you ever lose data.

This hasn't been a common report, so check for anything that might be changing the files in your library folder.  Also, make sure you have the library loaded you expect since after a load failure it can offer to revert back to the default library (assuming you use a library other than the default).
