Rip DSD files from SACDs?
« on: November 03, 2011, 07:27:21 pm »

It's great that MC 17 will play DSD files, but all my DSD files are on SACDs. How might one rip DSD files from SACDs as native digital files so MC 17 can play them?

I'm ready at the decode end; my HTPC running MC 17 feeds my Onkyo Pro PR-SC5508 pre-pro via HDMI, and that pre-pro does a lovely job on the native DSD bitstream delivered via HDMI from my Oppo BDP-93, so all I need are DSD files in my MC 17 library.

I am not aware of any PC optical disc drives that natively know how to play SACDs, but am eager to be informed. I had hoped that a DVD drive might read SACDs, perhaps with help from a special driver.

The only easy way I've heard of to do this is using an older Sony PS3 and SACD Ripper software.  Ive read some posts on how to do this on computeraudiophile dot com.  Just do a search on "SACD Ripping PS3".

This thread at AVS has some more detailed info:

I still can't figure out if it is at least possible to rip the entire disk to an ISO. That way you at least wouldn't have to get out of your chair to load the disc....

I believe there is a legal issue with ripping SACD's.
